A peaceful place with deep historical roots
Le Port de Moricq
The Port de Moricq was a busy port in the Middle Ages, exporting wine, grain and timber to La Rochelle and Bordeaux. A few centuries ago, Le Port de Moricq was located at the meeting point of the Lay river and the ocean. This location made it a very active port, particularly in the grain trade. Today, the ocean has retreated several kilometers, and Le Port de Moricq is a peaceful spot between the Poitevin marshes and the banks of the Lay, with a rich history.

Moricq Tower
The Tour de Moricq is a feudal tower overlooking the Poitevin marshlands, and one of the few square towers in France. A vestige of medieval fortifications built to defend the mouth of the Lay, it bears witness to a time when Moricq was a busy port, exporting wine, grain and timber to La Rochelle and Bordeaux.
Les nuits de la tour
At the end of July, the tower lights up and tells its 800-year history, from the Middle Ages to the present day, through a colorful scenography created by a collective of actors, decorators, costume designers, fireworks technicians… A not-to-be-missed show for the whole family.
